How it is calculated

Cash cycle = lead time + days of sales per batch + payout lag: the time from paying the supplier to receiving the last payout for that batch. Batches in flight = cash cycle ÷ batch days — how many batches you have paid for at any moment if you never stock out. Cash needed = batches in flight × (batch landed cost + ads for the batch). First payout arrives at lead time + payout lag, the earliest any money comes back.

Payout lags are typical values from each platform's help pages (Amazon: funds available 7 days after delivery, then the 14-day settlement and a few days of bank transfer; Etsy, eBay and Shopify pay within days) and vary by account — newer Amazon accounts may carry an extra reserve. The tool models timing only; get per-unit fees from the [Amazon FBA calculator](/en/amazon-fba-calculator) and landed cost from the [landed cost calculator](/en/landed-cost-calculator).

Frequently asked questions

How long does Amazon take to pay?

Funds become available about seven days after the estimated delivery date, are included in the next 14-day settlement, and the bank transfer takes another 3–5 business days — roughly three weeks from the sale on average. Newer accounts may carry an extra reserve.

What lag should I use for the other platforms?

Etsy makes funds available once the order is processed and deposits on the schedule you pick (daily is the fastest); eBay funds are typically available within two business days and paid daily; Shopify Payments pays US stores in about two business days. Use 3–4 days unless your account says otherwise.

Why are batches in flight more than one?

Because you have to order the next batch before the current one has sold and paid out, or you stock out. The number of batches paid for at any moment equals the cash cycle divided by the batch's sell-through time.

Does the calculator include the selling plan, storage or refunds?

Put the plan and storage into the fee percentage (as a share of price) and add a refund allowance to it; the tool models timing, not every fee. Use the Amazon FBA calculator for the exact per-unit fees.
