Etsy’s fees are simple to list and easy to underestimate, because three of them stack on every order and a fourth — Offsite Ads — can appear on any sale at 12–15%. This guide sets out the 2026 rates for each fee, when it applies, and what a typical order actually nets. Rates are from Etsy’s Fees & Payments Policy and Etsy Payments Policy, verified 2026-09-20 (data sources).
The four fees on a sale
| Fee | Amount | Charged on |
|---|---|---|
| Listing fee | $0.20 | Each listing when created, renewed every 4 months, and automatically each time a multi-quantity listing sells and renews |
| Transaction fee | 6.5% | Item price + shipping charge + gift-wrap charge |
| Payment processing (US) | 3% + $0.25 | Total order amount including shipping and sales tax |
| Offsite Ads | 15% (or 12%) | Item price + shipping, only on orders attributed to an Etsy Offsite Ad; capped at $100 per order |
Three points that surprise new sellers:
- Shipping is inside the fee base. Charging $5 shipping adds $0.33 in transaction fee and $0.15 in processing. Offering “free shipping” and raising the item price by $5 costs exactly the same — Etsy’s fees are neutral between the two.
- Processing is charged on sales tax. Etsy collects and remits US sales tax itself, but the 3% + $0.25 is calculated on the total the buyer paid, tax included. On an 8% tax rate that adds about $0.07 per $30 order.
- The listing fee recurs. Every sale of a listing with quantity above one triggers a $0.20 auto-renewal, so for practical purposes there is a $0.20 fee on every order, not just on creation.
Offsite Ads: the fee you cannot fully control
Etsy runs ads on Google, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Bing and its own partner sites for listings across the marketplace. If a shopper clicks one of those ads and buys from your shop within 30 days, that order is charged an Offsite Ads fee:
- 15% if your shop made less than $10,000 in the previous 365 days. You can opt out in Shop Manager › Settings › Offsite Ads.
- 12% once the shop passes $10,000 in 365-day sales. Participation is then required for the life of the shop, even if sales later fall.
- Capped at $100 per order.
The fee lands on a minority of orders — Etsy does not publish the share, and it varies widely by category — but a single 15% order on a low-margin item can erase the profit of several ordinary ones. A workable approach is to price so that an Offsite Ads order still breaks even, and to treat the fee as a customer-acquisition cost rather than a surprise.
Payment processing by country
Payment processing depends on where your bank account is, not on the buyer:
| Seller country | Rate |
|---|---|
| United States | 3% + $0.25 USD |
| South Korea | 6.5% + $0.30 USD |
| Other countries | Varies (roughly 3–6.5% + a fixed fee); see the Etsy Payments Policy |
Non-US sellers are also charged a 2.5% currency-conversion fee when the listing currency differs from the payment-account currency, and sellers in the UK, France, Italy, Spain, Türkiye and several other countries pay a regulatory operating fee as a percentage of the order. US sellers pay neither.
Optional costs
- Etsy Ads (on-site): a daily budget you set; charged per click. Not a per-order fee.
- Etsy Plus: $10 per month for extra credits and customization options.
- Shipping labels bought through Etsy: charged at the carrier rate; they appear on your bill but are a shipping cost, not a fee.
Worked example: a $25 item with $5 shipping
US seller, buyer pays 8% sales tax, product cost $7.50, postage and packaging $4.50:
| Line | Not from an Offsite Ad | From an Offsite Ad (15%) |
|---|---|---|
| Item price + shipping | $30.00 | $30.00 |
| Sales tax collected (8%) | $2.40 (remitted by Etsy) | $2.40 |
| Listing fee | −$0.20 | −$0.20 |
| Transaction fee 6.5% × $30.00 | −$1.95 | −$1.95 |
| Payment processing 3% × $32.40 + $0.25 | −$1.22 | −$1.22 |
| Offsite Ads 15% × $30.00 | — | −$4.50 |
| Total Etsy fees | $3.37 (11.2%) | $7.87 (26.2%) |
| Payout (before your costs) | $26.63 | $22.13 |
| Product cost + postage | −$12.00 | −$12.00 |
| Net profit | $14.63 (58.5% of item price) | $10.13 (40.5%) |
Even with the Offsite Ads fee this order stays profitable — because materials are 30% of price. At a 60% material cost the same order would net $7.13 normally and $2.63 from an Offsite Ad, and one return would wipe out three sales.
Pricing rules that follow
- Fees are 11–12% of price plus shipping for most US orders, so the item needs to sell for at least about 1.11 × (materials + postage) + $0.50 just to cover Etsy — the fixed $0.45 in fees weighs more on cheap items.
- Set the price so that an Offsite Ads order still nets at least zero: price ≥ (materials + postage + $0.45) ÷ 0.755 for a 15% fee (6.5% + 3% + 15% = 24.5% of price).
- Renewals, samples, and unsold listings are $0.20 each every four months — a shop with 300 listings pays about $180 a year in listing fees before selling anything.
The Etsy fee calculator runs these numbers for any price, shipping charge, tax rate and country, and shows the result with and without Offsite Ads side by side.
